JON STICH

Jon Stich is a visual artist who I have been following for many years. he is influenced by modern culture, integrating troubles, conflict of today’s society into landscapes and personal figures. His work tends to be very colourful and there are multiple stories to tell in each frame.

He focuses on painting, illustration and portraiture and has published work for Adult Swim, CNN, New York observer and more. What draws me to Jon is his style and how he works. He is a very smart, creative individual and creates amazing visuals. I love how his work has a ‘retro’ feeling that feels very nostalgic through colours, landscapes and figure painting. His understanding of hierarchy and compositions in paintings is very impressive and shows it has taken years of practice to nail down.

How he integrates history with the modern world as if almost everything is living together is very compelling. As someone who loves traditional art and painters, I love to see individual artists to have their work displayed in big magazines. Jon defiantly inspires me and has through the years and is something I have explored through my years at university and incorporating illustrations into my final major project and experimenting in collage and Lino print. Experimenting with my hands before a computer is such an important process to my work development, in which I spend more time in than computerised work.
